Dear Colleagues,
It is with a heavy heart that I write to acknowledge the recent tragedy at UPMC-Memorial in York. Our thoughts are with the courageous physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, hospital staff, and law enforcement officers affected by this devastating event. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Officer Andrew Duarte, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, as well as to the West York Police Department.
Tragedies like these serve as stark reminders of the importance of unity, support, and our collective commitment to fostering a future where safety, compassion, and resilience remain our guiding principles. Every workplace should be a sanctuary of safety, where everyone feels secure and protected.
I would like to take a moment to provide some updates from the YCMS. I am pleased to share that we held a successful legislative event in December, marking an important step forward in our efforts to advocate for meaningful policy changes. Through dedicated collaboration and a shared commitment to progress, we continue to work on advancements that will positively impact our community.
Looking ahead, I want to highlight an important moment on the horizon—the upcoming Presidential Installation Ceremony in May at The First Post in York, where we will formally welcome Dr. Matthew Howie as the incoming president. Dr. Howie brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and passion to this role, and I have no doubt that under his guidance, we will continue to make a lasting impact. This ceremony will be a time to reflect on our achievements, celebrate our shared vision, and embrace the future with optimism and enthusiasm.
As we move forward, let us find hope in the strength of our community and the progress we continue to make. Even in difficult times, we stand together, supporting one another and striving for a better tomorrow. I am grateful for each of you and for the work we do together to make a difference.
Michael Daniels, DO
President of York County Medical Society
