In 1993 the Board of Directors of The York County Medical Society approved a proposal to form an Endowment Fund at The Appell Center for the Performing Arts, “the Crowne Jewel of downtown York”, to support performances. It was felt that this would be a significant step in improving the Public Image of our Society. The initial campaign raised $36,000 and today, with sound investing and additional contributions, it has now grown to about $120,000. The earnings allow sponsorship of a major show every one to two years at the Bronze or Silver levels. This sponsorship with our logo is listed in all of the promotional materials for that year.
Major Donors, those who have contributed or in whose name is contributed $1,500, are recognized in perpetuity. This level is unchanged from establishment in 1993. Smaller contributions are cumulative. All contributions are fully tax deductible.
Our Endowment Fund at The Appell Center has sponsored SHOWS SUCH AS GRAND HOTEL, EVITA, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, PORGY AND BESS, JERSEY BOYS, and this past year, the sold out performance of COME FROM AWAY, the Tony winning musical based on the true story of the 7,000 airline passengers stranded in Gander, Newfoundland, on 9/11.
And on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 we will be co-sponsoring another Tony winning musical, DEAR EVAN HANSEN, the story of a lonely high schooler whose letter written as an assignment becomes an internet sensation. Recommended for age 12+ because of adult themes and discussion of suicide. For more information go to dearevanhansen.com or appellcenter.org.
The first six YCMS Members to make a $250.00 or greater tax free donation to The York County Medical Society Endowment Fund at the Appell Center will receive two of the complementary tickets which come with our sponsorship. Call The Appell Center Director of Development Mindi Haines at 717 825-2235 for availability. For regular tickets for Dear Evan Hansen call the Box Office at 717 846-1111, or buy on-line at appellcenter.org.
